Doctors believed the 34-year-old Canadian was left entirely unresponsive after suffering a cardiac arrest 16 years ago.

Exoplanet with longest year discovered

Astronomers have identified an extrasolar planet that takes 708 days to complete one orbit of its star.

Named Kepler421-b, the distant world is located approximately 1,040 light years away and was discovered using observations from NASA's Kepler Space Telescope.

Si chiama Kepler-421b e ruota intorno alla stella Kepler-421, guardandola da una distanza media di 1,2 Unità Astronomiche e quindi più vicino alla stella di quanto Marte non lo sia dal Sole.

La stella Kepler-421 è più fredda del nostro Sole, in misura tale che il pianeta riceve circa il 28% della radiazione che la Terra riceve dal Sole, o anche il 64% dell'insolazione di Marte. La luminosità della stella è infatti di circa il 40% di quella solare.

Scoperti i resti fossili del cervello di uno dei più antichi predatori, un piccolo ‘mostro’ marino vissuto 520 milioni di anni fa, quando la vita popolava solo gli oceani.

La sorpresa, svelata su Nature da un gruppo di ricerca congiunto dell’Università dell’Arizona e di Yunnan in Cina, è che la struttura di questo sistema nervoso primitivo era più ‘arretrata’ di quello delle sue prede e risulta molto simile a quello di alcuni enigmatici vermi che vivono nelle foreste tropicali.

Prehistoric creature flew 25m years ago and had a wingspan twice that of the royal albatross, the largest bird alive.
A clutch of fossilised bones uncovered during the expansion of an airport terminal in the US may belong to the largest flying bird ever found.

The prehistoric creature had a wingspan of between 6.1 and 7.4 metres and could glide for long distances over the oceans as it searched for fish 25m years ago, according to scientists writing in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
